When you have a film night in, what do you normally grab to snack on? Chocolate? Sweets? Cakes? A three-course meal? In our house, anything goes! Normally on a Saturday, we will grab our dinners and a dessert for afters and sit back on the sofa with one of the newest home releases or a classic. This does change however when I am having a film night in with friends though. Then all cards are off the table!

Planning takes place early, and I often head off to our local supermarket to pick up some snack bits we can enjoy throughout the night. Crisps, sweets, chocolate, biscuits and most importantly popcorn are all on the list. I mean you can’t have a film night in without popcorn, am I right?

With so many options now, I am always trying to keep an eye out for what is the latest popcorn treat I can provide for them when they pop over. There so, when I was emailed about the opportunity to find out more about the Popcorn Shed brand, I was very excited. Having never heard of them before, the company was completely new to me and so I was eager to discover what they do to make their popcorn so special.

Created by cousins Sam and Laura, Popcorn Shed has been running from their garden shed since 2016 and the family-owned business has since gone on to win several awards for the gourmet flavours and branding. When my parcel arrived, I wasn’t sure what I would be opening, keeping the whole thing a surprise.

Inside the box was a lot more popcorn than I was expecting. From tiny snack packs to a giant box shaped like their shed (LOVED THIS!), I automatically loved the brand. The handy snack packs meant that in the future, I could imagine myself grabbing the ones my friends liked and specializing their tastes. Whereas with the bigger box, I could dish these out to the family when we have a party or are gathering in the living room after a busy day.

With many flavours to choose from, I was lucky to receive the following:

  • Gourmet Salted Butterscotch Popcorn Shed

  • Mini Pop Toffee Popcorn

  • Mini Pop Sea Salt Popcorn

  • Mini Pop Sweet & Salty Popcorn

  • Mini Pop White Truffle Popcorn

  • Mini Pop Salt & Vinegar Popcorn

With a mum who adores popcorn, she soon tucked in on Saturday night whilst watching TV. To be honest, we were unsure of how they were going to taste, yet she was pleasantly surprised by the flavors and the unique size of the snack pack, as she enjoyed the toffee variety.

What I really like about these are the way in which they are packaged. I adore the small packs that mean you can put them in lunch boxes, carry them in your bag or if you just simply fancy a small popcorn snack you can enjoy them. And with each one ranging between less than 140 calories, they are not so bad either. Although, it doesn’t really matter aha!

Popcorn Shed is gourmet and with affordable prices for each size, they deliver on their promise. I am going to be ordering some more or looking out for them in shops for my next film night to help cater for everyone's different tastes. They are properly popped pieces of snacking joy.

To find out more about Popcorn Shed or to see the full range, head to their website lovelies. Let me know in the comments below what you like to snack on when watching TV or a film lovely and I will be sure to get back to you!

7 – Create a personal experience

This is an advanced tactic that really separates the boys from the men (and the girls from the women).

Rather than just get her a gift, use the gift that you get her to create a highly personalized experience. For example, say you get your girlfriend something culinary-related, like a rice cooker. Under normal circumstances, a gift like this might be construed unfavorably. Make up for that and more by cooking her first meal with the rice cooker – preferably, one of her favorites. And practice beforehand. She’ll remember the gift and the effort that you took in making that first meal with it every time she uses it. Epic win.

Or, suppose you get her an external hard drive. Load that sucker up with her favorite photos, music, and books – she’ll always treasure the (no added-cost) personalization, and she’ll keep that hard drive as a memory well past its useful shelf life.

8 – Create cues to make the personal experience even more memorable

Kind of an advanced tactic building on “Create a personal experience” above, but this is one that creates added dividends for you, with a little bit of extra effort, and an added dose of – dare I say it – evil?

Let me give you an example. Say you’re getting your girlfriend that rice cooker. Maybe instead of one introductory meal, you’ve decided to make her favorite meal ten times. The cue part is, make sure she’s around while you’re making the food. And make sure, for example, her favorite song or album is playing. Soon, you’ll have conditioned her to think of you – in a good light – every time she hears that song or album. And, think of the possibilities if you have conditioned her towards some physical activities after the meal…

It’s the gift that keeps on giving – to her, and to you.

9 – Learn how to present the valentine gift

Guys, seriously. Learn to wrap a gift. There are loads of tutorials on YouTube and the web at large – I’ll leave it to you to research.

This entails buying wrapping paper. If you’re reading this because you’re looking for last-minute valentine gifts ideas… well, newspaper is an acceptable substitute. Brown paper grocery bags can also work – logo side in, fellas.

For the lazier among us not willing to learn how to wrap – but willing to spend a little bit more – another option is a gift bag – i.e. a bag whose purpose is to give gifts. Also, stock plenty of tissue paper to add volume.

A final option is a nice wooden or metal box (with a lid). An old one will do, as long as it looks in reasonable condition – think antique-y. Put the gift in there, accent with a ribbon (these are easy to tie), and you’re golden.

10 – Preparation for the future

Presumably you’re reading this because you’re looking for last-minute gift ideas – but while you’re getting her her gift, why not prepare for the next time? This is the time to buy 2-3 additional gifts. Also, buy the wrapping paper. Wrap it when it arrives. Store it in a cool, dry place. If and when you forgot (or, just for the piece of mind), when it’s time to dispense a gift, go to your gift stash. Rinse and repeat.

And, to prevent forgetting in the future – for God’s sake use a calendar. Don’t have one? Get a Gmail account and start using Calendar. Have Calendar remind you via email of all important events (birthday, Christmas, Valentines etc.) 7 days before the critical day. And then again 3 days before. And then the day of.

Finally – start paying attention to good gift ideas. Most guys hate shopping with their girlfriends, but this really affords you an opportunity to buy her something that she has identified she really likes. If you can’t stand that option, just listed to her, and note her dreams, wants, needs, and nuisances. Use that to seed your gift ideas.

Who doesn’t love caramel? This golden, sweet and sugary substance has been around for ages and we are very happy that it has. It is one of the main components of our gourmet popcorn range! After we air pop the kernels of corn, they are coated in a thin layer of rich, buttery caramel. After that, the popcorn is tumbled in fruit, nuts or chocolate for an extra layer of flavour. This makes it the best caramel popcorn you’ve ever tasted! Crunchy, sweet and oh so moreish.

Whether you are looking for a premium gift for a food loving friend or family member, an innovative snack, treats for a movie night in or just a sweet pick-me-up for when you’re at work or at school, caramel popcorn is the perfect popcorn snack!

As caramel is a very versatile product, we use it to make more than ten different caramel popcorn flavours, from chocolate caramel popcorn to peanut butter caramel popcorn. We even have a cheddar and caramel popcorn mix available for those who dare to try something different! Cheddar and caramel popcorn is a typically American combination but is not very well-known in the United Kingdom, which is why we wanted to develop this special flavour so badly. It definitely is one of our more unique flavours.

To make sure everyone can enjoy our gourmet popcorn, we have also created a delicious vegan caramel popcorn for those who live a vegan lifestyle or follow a specific diet. Chosen by an expert panel of food tasters, we are incredibly excited that our vegan caramel popcorn has also won a Great Taste Award recently!

Next to vegan caramel popcorn, we have a wonderful salted caramel popcorn shed. Salted caramel has been the top of the pops for a few years now and we are loving the trend! Deliciously sweet, with a hint of sea salt for that savoury touch. Absolutely delicious! Because we love it so much, we created our Salted Caramel Popcorn with Belgian Milk Chocolate. This flavour has been a fan favourite ever since we developed it in 2016. It’s not only one of our best selling flavours, but it has also won a Great Taste Award two years in a row!

All of our caramel popcorn flavours are available in a variety of pack sizes. Our signature sheds, reusable gifting jars and our portion sized popcorn snack packs. Next to that, we have wonderful gift bundles available in every price range. It doesn’t matter which flavour you prefer, we have got popcorn snack for everyone!
